What sector do you work in and have you any thoughts to share about the industry right now?

I work in the client accounts sector working with both yachting and e-gaming clients.

Please tell us what led you to this career and how has it has progressed so far?

When it came to me finishing my A-levels I really wasn’t sure about moving away to go to university but I didn’t want to stop furthering my education. An accountant from a firm on the Isle of Man came into our school and did a presentation about working and also being put through your accounting exams and I thought it was a great opportunity for me. You could say I fell into it because I had never ever thought about being an accountant I actually wanted to be a psychologist. Since beginning my training 3 years ago I am nearly CAT qualified and will continue my exams till I am fully qualified.

How is your day at Affinity and what do you do?

I am a Client Accounts Administrator. My role at Affinity includes general bookkeeping of Affinity’s client accounts, such as assisting with the preparation of tax and VAT returns. I help guide junior members in my team and provides support to other administrators in the company.

Are there any skills you are currently working on?

I am currently working on applying my accounting knowledge gained from my three years in the corporate sector to eGaming and yachting companies which is vastly different compared to the type of clients I had in my previous role at another CSP on the island.

What aspects do you love about your job and the company?

I really enjoy how modern Affinity is and its desire to move with the times. I am always busy and feel I am given the opportunity to be independent and show my knowledge and also have the best support from my team. We all work together.

Can you tell us your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?

After a busy day I enjoy going home and having dinner with my family and then if the football is on I will watch that with my Dad or a TV series.

Do you have any passions outside of work?

My passions outside of work are music as I play guitar and piano and also fitness.

Finally, what is something you have done but will never do again?

This is a really difficult question….the only thing I can think of is that I would never get in a lift with my brother and sister again after they got us stuck in one in Spain.
