Meet the Team: Kate Shaw

In this meet the team article, we hear from Kate, our Assistant Manager in the Isle of Man.

Since joining Affinity in 2013 as an Assistant Administrator, she has built a portfolio of clients she works closely with, providing direct support in areas such as day-to-day administration, VAT registration and structuring, importations, flag support and registration and crew assistance.

What does your day-to-day role at Affinity involve?

I manage a portfolio of clients primarily in the yachting sector, and am involved in business development. I also provide support and guidance to the wider admin team across all areas of the business.

What led you to this career?

I’d worked in CSP for a few years and actually came to Affinity for a secretary role.  Affinity thought I would be better suited to an admin spot and asked me to come back for that role instead.  Here I am, nearly 10 years later, in a career I love and find wholly fulfilling.

What skills are you currently working on?

Business Development is something that I’ve had a part in for the last few years but is something I’m devoting more time to now.  Given that we have also opened our Cayman Islands office, although I’ve been working with the registry there for years, I’m learning much more about setting up the structures best suited to our clients.

What’s your go-to tea or coffee order?

I’d usually go for a skinny cappuccino, but if I’m feeling particularly wild, it’ll be a mocha, thank you.

What is the best thing about being part of the Affinity team?

Just being part of the “team”, cliché I know, but I genuinely enjoy coming to work and being with my colleagues; they make me laugh every single day.

What has been your favourite social or Wellness Committee event so far?

The Committee has put on some great relaxing and fun workshops and activities and is definitely an asset to our perks package!  The social events are usually a great time as we are generally a fun bunch. The 2022 Xmas party stands out in particular, and that’s got nothing to do with the fact that I had a hand in organising it.

What have you seen recently that has made you smile?

Honestly, it’s probably something stupid I’ve seen on TikTok.

What is your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?

I’d love to say something deep and meaningful like “watching the sunset” or “a walk in nature”, but ideally, it’s a large glass of Valpolicella.

If you could add one thing to the Affinity office, what would it be?

A bouncy castle!
