Meet the team: Elena Pace
Affinity Group employs more than 30 people across the company’s offices in Isle of Man and Malta. We are a talented and friendly bunch, working closely with our wide range of clients to meet their specific needs. Here’s a little from Elena Pace, Manager of our Malta office accounts team
Please tell us about your work at Affinity Group
My role is that of accounts team manager at the Malta office, which consists of a team of four people, Claire, Martin, Joscarl and me.
Our responsibility is preparing the accounts of our clients up to audit stage, providing accounting information to clients or to our colleagues at the IOM office as required, and submitting VAT Returns.
Each team member has their own portfolio of clients. As manager of the team, I also aim to guide and help the team members with any difficulty they may encounter. We are a mix of characters however we get along very well.
I also liaise very my much with Joanne, our managing director, and with my colleagues in our administration team, Emma and Tanya. I must also mention the invaluable advice I get from our compliance director, Ray, and from John, our senior consultant.
Could you tell us about your career?
After I graduated from the University of Malta as an accountant, I worked my first 12 years in auditing, gaining experience with various clients of different sizes and from different sectors.
I then decided to work on the other side of the coin and joined Affinity as an accountant, which I must admit is more engaging than auditing because the accountant builds the accounts from scratch, while the auditor examines the end result. I have been working with Affinity for the past five and a half years.
What are some aspects of the job you most enjoy?
Since I have a good experience in auditing, I find liaising with the auditors of our clients very straightforward and I understand their demands very well.
Please tell us a bit about your home life
I am married to Liam and we have a son, Julian, who is nine years old. Very recently we adopted a cute tiny kitten and we called him Sunshine as he is very ginger.
What do you like to do outside work?
I really like keeping fit and active and when it is nice weather we go to the countryside where Julian rides his bicycle while I try to catch up jogging. Since he is still very young and does not go too fast, I really enjoy it and so does he. – especially when he’s far ahead of me!
In Malta we are blessed with a long period of the year with warm weather and nice beaches so when it is hot we head up to the beach for a nice long swim or a barbecue by the sea in the evening and a nice glass of wine.
